IMG_0150                                                                                       It’s 2016 and I’m starting the year off with  the Cylon Centurion from Moebius Models. To be honest, the only reason I decided to pick up this kit is due to the Tested.com One Day build with Adam Savage and Battlestar Galactica star Aaron Douglas. In the video Adam and Aaron build both the Cylon Raider and Centurion kits as they chat about everything from the cast of Galactica to Aaron running into Robin Williams on the streets of LA. Adam Savage is always fun to watch and Aaron Douglas is such a genuinely nice guy and funny as can be. Watching them reminded me of the few times I’ve had buddies over to work on models. Building like this is fun, entertaining and lends  itself to learning tips and trick from other builders.

Although I have the other Galactica kits, this one just didn’t thrill me. The stance is odd. Just by looking at the box its hard to tell how big it truly is. And dang it, I’d rather have a classic Cylon. But Moebius has proven itself with the other kits. On the video, they completely assemble the kit and rattle can finish paint it. And it looked good. I was totally shocked and ran out the next day and picked the kit up.

IMG_0156  My normal method of assembly is to build in section. Paint the sections, then assemble the section. This usually works, however it became an issue when assemble started. The model tolerances are so tight, that the layer of paint made it hard for a few of the pieces to be put together. In fact, some of the asseblies are just pressure fit together. Which works for me. These are not criticisms against the kit. Had i followed the instructions, this would probably not have been an issue.  It only took me about a week to complete this kit working on the weekend and a few hours a night after work. The end result tells the tale.  It’s a great looking kit to be sure.

IMG_0159  A mid level modeler should have no problem building the kit. The entire line is worth the time and money. I looked on the internet and did see that others had fitted electronics in the head for the eye sensor. Which is cool. However, I would put this in the quick and dirty category. You could have this built  and painted in an afternoon and still have a  good looking kit for the shelf. The Moebius Models crew hit this one out of the part. But now a really want that classic Cylon Centurion kit. Great job guys A+++++.
