The full depth of my knowledge of Marvels War Machine begins and ends with Iron Man  2. Never the less, the portrayal of this character was good enough for me to pick up this kit by Moebius Models.

To be honest, I was avoiding this kit much like i’m avoiding the Iron Man kit. At first glance, it would seem that this kit would require a lot of masking and painting. I’m glad to report that this was not the case. Like many of Moebius Models recent kits it’s designed to be built in sub assemblies.

image      First on the assembly block is the head. I used the head to solidify my color choices. Completing the head got the modeling juices flowing. Again i’m blown away by Moebius Models. They figured out a way to hide all the seams. Or separate the parts of different colors making it easy to end up with a quality finished product. The head alone is five pieces. A left and right half, eyes, a top piece and faceplate. Just this one piece made me realize I had nothing to fear.

Next youimage start the torso. They designed this part so that the upper torso is a base for the detailed pieces to connect with.  Picture to the left, I test fit the primed abdominal armor and waste. The rest of the upper armor consists of four pieces. A left and right side , a chest plate and back plate. Once you attach the sides, the front and back use alignment holes. The parts come together along a natural line making them almost undetectable. Maybe I’m making too much of this. But, anytime I can glue two pieces together and then not have to worry about whether the glue will be seen I get happy. That tells me the people designing this stuff are really thinking about what they are doing. I for one appreciate the effort. So keep it up.

image  Here is the un-assembled and painted right arm. The completed torso and left arm. I airbrushed the main parts with Model Master Titanium and brushed on the Model Master Steel. There are very few places you have two colors coming in contact with each other. The left hand was a bit of a challenge. You have to glue each finger in place then put the hand top and bottom together. I can’t think of any good reason why that was necessary. The left hand was a two piece assembly and again. Not sure why they did that. Anywho. The legs assemble and paint in the same manner as the arms. With all the sub-assemblies done, everything glues together to complete the body. They designed this so well, you can almost not do it wrong.

The last thing you do to complete this kit is to add the rocket launcher and Gatling Gun. Both of which mounted to the body without issue. The ammunition belt was a different story. It consists of eight separate pieces that must be glued together from imagethe gun to War Machines armor. This was probably the hardest part of the whole kit for me. Getting the parts together at the correct angle to line up at both ends was more than a little challenging. I finally decided to make two sections, get them as close as possible to each other and glue it as best as I could. Thank goodness for instacure.

imageAnd here is the final outcome. Pretty dad blame awesome. Honestly, you could probably glue it all together, paint it all one color. Then spot paint the parts you want to and it would still come out great. Once again, Moebius Models knocks it out of the park. Great job guys. A+++++
