And before you say it, I know that that was a quote from the original series and not the new one. Now, Moebius  Models has done it again. First with the Battlestar Galactica and them the Battlestar Pegasus. Both kits are in the 1:4105 scale, which is an odd scale but they are a nice size for display.

The Galactica

imageThe kit is simple for the experienced modeler . There are only 6 pages to the instructions. Most of the sub-assemblies are a left and right or top and bottom. My favorite part of the entire kit are the decals for the landing bays. They run the length of the interior of the bay.  You may be the only one to see them, they are cool none the less. This was the first kit, that I can remember, having to paint and decal a part before gluing it together. The instructions suggest painting the sub-assemblies prior to final assembly. This was probably the best suggestion ever. I’ve been build for a long time. Very rarely do I read the instructions anymore. Luckily in the mist of a long builders block. Reading instructions to motivate me worked to my advantage.  Once completely assembled, the kit is beautiful.

The Pegasus

imageIn complete contrast, the Pegasus is a bit of a challenge to even the experienced modeler. This kit MUST be built in sub-assemblies in order to complete a good looking kit. Like the Galactica, this kit has decals to the landing bays. The landing bay openings are larger and easier to see the decals. The Pegasus is a larger and newer Battlestar. It has twice the landing bays and engines than its little sister. It always looked to me like the the evil Galactica. There is no doubt that this ship was breed for battle. Following the instructions is a must. I’d suggest some test fitting of parts as well. What was most surprising to me was it that the alignment pegs on most parts held the ship together without glue.

Both ships come with a baseplate with there insignia. The one thing I would have changed is the length of the base display rod. I figure, most people who will be buying one kit will eventually buy the other. They would display them next to each other the it’d be better if the Galactica was about an inch lower than the Pegasus. Its a small thing and easily remedied. Not even a decent challenge, a beginning modeler could it. But that’s the entire point. The only complaint is the display rods should be a different length.

Moebius Models is having a really good year. The majority of my builds this year have come out of their doors. We are in the last quarter of the years. And they still have several kits I want to build. They may just be my model company of the years. Keep up the good work. A+++++
